State representative dies during Little League event

WILMINGTON, Mass. (AP) - Massachusetts Democratic State Representative Jim Miceli has died during a Little League event in Wilmington.

MassLive.com reports the 83-year-old, who represented Wilmington and Tewksbury, was at opening ceremonies for the season Saturday morning when he suffered a massive heart attack.

Fire department officials say Miceli collapsed at the ceremonies around 10 a.m., and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Miceli, who has been a representative since 1977, has coped with several medical issues, including a February collapse during a political caucus.

Republican Gov. Charlie Baker offered his condolences on Twitter, saying Miceli was a “hugely aggressive advocate” for his district.
