JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say skeletal remains found in a wooded area of southern New Jersey have been identified as those of a person who went missing seven months ago, and a man has been charged in his death.

The Ocean County and Burlington County prosecutors’ offices said Monday that the body found last month in the Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area was identified as that of 20-year-old Cody MacPherson, who was last seen in September.

Prosecutors allege that 27-year-old Alan McGinnis of Pemberton stabbed MacPherson Sept. 24 and dumped his body. He’s charged with murder, kidnapping, weapons counts, improper disposal of human remains and destruction of evidence. He was taken to the Ocean County jail; a listed number for him couldn’t be found Monday and it’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
