BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a woman they say purposely hit a pedestrian with her car in a Florida road rage incident.

Thirty-year-old LiShell Jacobs was arrested Friday and charged with driving with a suspended license causing serious death or injury, and aggravated battery.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 28-year-old Erika Edwards was struck intentionally by a vehicle that then fled the scene late Tuesday. The Palm Beach Post reports the incident led authorities to shut down the ramps leading to and from Interstate 95 for several hours.

Her family members told a judge Saturday she had a cracked skull, broken hip bones and is on a breathing machine. It’s unclear why Edwards was on the ramp.

Jacobs told investigators that she “had been lying about what took place” and “panicked and fled the scene” after hearing Edwards scream.
