BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a man who was sought after allegedly assaulting a Burleigh County sheriff’s deputy during an Interstate 94 traffic stop in Bismarck.

Forty-seven-year-old Lonnie Howard allegedly gave the officer false identification on April 14, punched the deputy several times in the chest, rammed the vehicle of a person who stopped to help the officer and then fled.

The deputy was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

Howard was arrested without incident late Monday when a Bismarck police officer checking out a suspicious vehicle found him hiding in the back seat.

Howard has not been formally charged in the deputy assault, but he’s wanted on unrelated warrants by state and federal law agencies.
