NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (AP) - The state of Nebraska will be celebrating Arbor Day with tree plantings and other festivities.

Cities from La Vista in eastern Nebraska to Alliance in western Nebraska will hold tree plantings on Friday to observe Arbor Day. In Nebraska City in the southeastern Nebraska, the 147th Annual Arbor Day Celebration will kick off Friday with a tree planting and free admission to Arbor Lodge, the 52-room mansion and grounds of the late Arbor Day founder J. Sterling Morton. Arbor Lodge is now a state park.

A fun run, parade, craft fair and live music are slated for the festival Saturday and Sunday.

Arbor Day is recognized as an official state holiday in Nebraska, with courts and some state government offices closing for the day.
