MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina university has announced the appointment of a new president.

The University of Mount Olive said Thursday it’s appointed David L. Poole as the school’s fifth president. Poole takes office on July 1.

Poole succeeds Philip P. Kerstetter, who was president since July 2009 and who announced last summer his plans to retire at the end of the current academic year.

Poole is currently president for online and professional studies and an associate professor of leadership and management at California Baptist University.

Poole received both his master of science in administration and technology and bachelor of arts in music in education from Pepperdine University. He has a doctorate in higher education leadership from California State University Fullerton, and is a graduate of the Harvard Institute for Educational Management.
