NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A mass casualty drill featuring a staged terrorist attack gave students at a Connecticut college hands-on experience as they study to become medics, firefighters and journalists.

The scenario for the drill Thursday at the University of New Haven was an attacker driving a vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians, similar to the attack in Toronto that killed 10 people on Monday.

WFSB-TV reports that aspiring medics attended to faux victims, forensic science students gathered evidence and the broadcast communications club reported as the situation unfolded.

Lecturer Ken Gray says the drill gave students a chance to practice for potential real-world disasters. He says vehicle attacks, in particular, are something they need to be prepared for.
