SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida county where a recent high school massacre occurred lost 911 service for about an hour.
Broward County officials said it took about an hour to restore 911 service Friday for unknown reasons.
The Sun Sentinel reports that a manager figured out there was a problem when operators began receiving fewer calls than normal and that the calls that came through were appearing as hang-up calls. The operators got those numbers and called them back. There is no immediate indication that any emergencies were missed.
The 911 system’s acting director, Brett Bayag, told the newspaper it will take about a week to determine what caused the outage.
The county received dozens of calls Feb. 14 during the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High that left 17 dead.
