LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska’s Judicial Resources Commission will hold a public hearing next month to determine whether two judicial vacancies exist in the 5th Judicial District in eastern Nebraska.

The 5th Judicial District covers the counties of Boone, Butler, Colfax, Hamilton, Merrick, Nance, Platte, Polk, Saunders, Seward and York.

The commission’s hearing in Lincoln follows the retirements of County Judge Patrick McDermott and District Judge Mary Gilbride.

The meeting is open to the public. Those wishing to present written testimony must mail it to the commission chairman no later than May 24. The address is: State Capitol Building, Room 2219, Lincoln, NE 68509.

The commission will study workload statistics and other factors to make a recommendation to the Nebraska Legislature as to whether there is a need to fill the vacancies.
