NOTTINGHAM, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire officials are warning that bears are getting hungrier and bolder as they forage for food.
WMUR-TV reports that a bear killed a lamb Friday morning in Candia. And a Nottingham man had to scare off a bear that got into a pen with his goats the day before.
Officials say bears are roaming for food as they wait for plants to turn green.
New Hampshire Fish and Game biologist Rob Calvert said black bears may normally eat nuts and berries but he says they’re also opportunistic omnivores.
He said he likes to think of bears as “smart, lazy and always hungry” so people with farm animals or bird feeders need to be vigilant.
