COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A sheriff in South Carolina says he has a strong suspect in the killing of a transgender woman and it appears to be an argument over a break up.
Authorities say 29-year-old Sasha Wall was shot several times at close range while in her car on a rural road in Chesterfield County on April 1.
Sheriff Jay Brooks says State Law Enforcement Division agents are testing DNA from the scene that likely came from the killer.
Brooks told The State newspaper that investigators think Wall was killed by someone romantically involved with her and not because she was a transgender woman.
A vigil was held Sunday at the South Carolina Statehouse in Wall’s honor calling for more tolerance and understanding of transgender people.
