BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Police at the University of California, Berkeley say a man threw a caustic substance on a university employee, injuring her.

The attack happened about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. A police statement says the victim entered a restroom at the campus’s Wheeler Hall and found a man inside. The woman told the man the building was closed, and ordered him to leave. Police say the man followed the worker, and threw an unspecified caustic substance on her.

University police searched the area but could not find the attacker.

The victim suffered chemical burns and was taken to a local emergency room for treatment.

Campus police spokesman Sgt. Nicolas Hernandez says police are not currently releasing other details of the attack. Hernandez says he had no information on the condition of the victim.
