POLSON, Mont. (AP) - A northwestern Montana man has died while searching for shed antlers southwest of St. Ignatius.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says searchers found the body of 52-year-old Michael Eugene Wheeler of St. Ignatius just before 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Wheeler’s adult son reported him missing Monday night after the two became separated when a storm blew in.

Bell says Wheeler’s body was taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

Deer and elk shed their antlers every year and grow a new set. People use antlers for carving and other decorative uses and for dog treats.
