DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit woman has been sentenced to 9 to 20 years in prison for the death of her newborn daughter whose body was stashed in a trash bag outside her home.

WDIV-TV reports Glencetta Gloster-Washington learned her punishment Thursday after earlier pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Gloster-Washington, who has five other children, told the court she’s “sorry for everything that happened.”

She was originally charged with first-degree murder and concealing the death of the child. Her lawyer asked the court for leniency.
