ST. CLAIR, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say two people were killed when a pickup truck rear-ended a stopped tractor-trailer in eastern Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash happened Thursday afternoon after the rig’s driver pulled over on the side of Interstate 44 just east of St. Clair. Both people inside the truck were killed. They were identified as 35-year-old Kristine Bergmann and 30-year-old Justin Giddens, both of Pacific.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was outside the rig at the time and wasn’t hurt. Officials say the crash closed both westbound lanes of I-44 for several hours.
