SENECA, N.Y. (AP) - Police have cited the truck driver involved in an accident that sent a rock through the windshield of a car, killing a 74-year-old New York woman.
The Ontario County Sherriff’s Office says 27-year-old Manuel Vallejo has been ticketed for failing to have stone or splash guards in place.
Police say a rock had become wedged between the wheels of Vallejo’s tractor-trailer as he left a landfill in Seneca on Aug. 4.
Video footage showed the mud flaps on the rear trailer were still pinned up after he left, which is in violation of state law.
The rock smashed through the windshield of a passing car, killing passenger Barbara Amidon.
Vallejo will return to court at a later date.
