TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A suspended senior corrections officer who allegedly conspired to smuggle prescription painkillers into a New Jersey prison has been indicted on official misconduct and numerous other charges.
The indictment against David Cade was handed up Wednesday by a state grand jury.
Authorities say the 53-year-old Clayton resident conspired with an inmate at South Woods State Prison in Bridgeton and a woman outside the facility to smuggle drugs to the inmate and provide the woman with drugs for her use.
Authorities say Cade met with the woman on April 18 and she gave him $1,000 and approximately 50 pills to be smuggled into the prison, while he gave her other drugs. State Police arrested Cade immediately after the transaction was made.
It wasn’t known Wednesday if Cade has retained an attorney,
