COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Republicans need a runoff to pick a candidate for a vacant state senate seat in the Columbia area.
None of the four candidates received a majority of the vote in Tuesday’s primary for the seat given up by Columbia Republican Sen. John Courson after he pleaded guilty to misconduct in office in June on allegations of misuse of campaign funds.
Ballentine attorney Benjamin Dun and United Methodist Church minister John Holler will meet in a runoff on Aug. 28.
The winner will face Democrat Dick Harpootlian, who won his party’s nomination in Tuesday’s voting.
The special election for Corson’s seat will take place Nov. 6.
