CRESTON, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have identified a man fatally shot by police in Creston this week, as well as the officer who shot him.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says 31-year-old Christopher Cameron, of Creston, died in the Monday night confrontation.

The division says Creston Police Sgt. Jared Auten, a 12-year law enforcement veteran, is the officer who fired his service weapon, killing Cameron.

Investigators have said the shooting happened when police were called to a Creston city park for a report of a man, later identified as Cameron, sitting on a bench with a gun.

Responded officers tried talking to Cameron for several minutes. Officials say he then advanced on officers and refused commands to stop and show his hands before he was shot.
