MIAMI (AP) - Miami authorities are trying to determine the identity of a detained man who claims he was mistaken for his twin brother who escaped from a Georgia state prison.

The Miami Herald reports that prosecutors believe 63-year-old Raul Prado is posing as his alleged twin Jean Vernet Prado who is in federal custody.

The man claiming to be Jean Vernet Prado said he was using a copy of his imprisoned brother’s ID when he was arrested. He told officials that he is a former Cuban military pilot who moved to Miami recently.

Raul Prado was serving a 25-year prison sentence for a drug trafficking conviction. Authorities said he fled from a work detail at a Georgia water treatment plant.

Investigators say fingerprints appear to match the fugitive sought in Georgia.
