KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - Work has begun on a $117,000 solar panel array near the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge over the Hudson River.

The New York State Bridge Authority says the 486-kilowatt array near the Kingston end of the bridge will generate about a quarter of the agency’s electricity.

The solar array should be complete by year’s end and is expected to recoup its costs in 13 years.

The authority operates five bridges over the Hudson River north of New York City.
