HARBESON, Del. (AP) - Police in Delaware say authorities shot and killed a paraplegic man who had reached for a handgun while troopers were executing a search warrant at a home.

Delaware State Police said in a news release an unidentified 50-year-old man was shot early Tuesday in Harbeson.

Authorities say the man was lying in bed and reached for a handgun while troopers were in the home.

A struggle over the weapon followed and two troopers fired their weapons at the man.

The man died at a hospital. Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said the man’s identity is being withheld until all family members can be notified.

Police said the investigation is underway and provided no additional information, including the races of the trooper and the victim.
