NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A man charged facing a murder charge who had been on the run for more than 14 years has been extradited to New Jersey.

The Essex County prosecutor’s office says Marvin Argueta was discovered living in El Salvador about three years ago.

Argueta was wanted for the February 2004 murder of a man outside a Newark bar and the shooting of three other people. He was charged with murder, assault and weapons offenses but failed to appear for an arraignment.

Last month the Salvadoran Supreme Court approved Argueta’s extradition.

Essex County was aided in the investigation and extradition by the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI, the State Department and the U.S. Marshals.

This story has been corrected to show the defendant’s last name is Argueta, not Arugeta.
