PLAINFIELD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say an alleged drunken driver accused in a hit-and-run accident that killed a pedestrian earlier this year has been indicted on vehicular homicide charges.

Union County prosecutors say Lavar Jones was speeding when he struck Sergio Cuxun-Tista on April 29, just moments after the victim had got out of a taxi in Plainfield. Jones was found a short time later at his home in South Plainfield, not far from the accident scene, and his heavily damaged car was also found at the residence.

The indictment made public on Friday also charges Jones with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. It wasn’t known Monday if he has retained an attorney.
