WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Firefighters across eastern Massachusetts are honoring one of their own as the body of Worcester firefighter Christopher Roy was transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Boston.

Firefighters, first responders and citizens lined the route and left flowers outside Roy’s fire station Monday.

Roy died battling a fast-moving apartment building blaze early Sunday. There were no reports of injuries to tenants.

The 36-year-old single father was a 2 ½-year veteran of the Worcester Fire Department and leaves behind a 9-year-old daughter.

A wake will be held Friday evening at St. John’s Catholic Church in Worcester. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church Saturday at 10 a.m.

Roy’s death comes days after Worcester marked 19 years since six city firefighters were killed battling a warehouse fire in 1999.
