GULF BREEZE, Fla. (AP) - A Florida firefighter is being credited for saving the life of a dog that was trapped under a dock in cold water.

The Pensacola News Journal reports Midway firefighter Cale Secondine says the station received a report of the trapped dog Sunday night when temperatures hovered around 45 degrees. He says responding firefighters shone a light under the dock and spotted the dog named Daisy with her head barely above the water.

He says he then dove into the water and freed the older, medium-sized dog. He says he brought Daisy to shore and reunited her with her owners, who wrapped them both in blankets.

Fire District Chief Jonathan Kanzigg says animal rescue calls are unusual but not uncommon, and he’s proud of how Secondine handled the rescue.
