PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The head of the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit has been reassigned as the city records the highest number of homicides in more than a decade.
Police department spokesman Jeff Chrusch says Capt. John Ryan is leaving the unit Friday. A new homicide captain will be named the same day.
Chrusch did not specify the reason for Ryan’s transfer, only saying that it is one of several command changes that have happened over the past few weeks.
