NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Leaders of one city in Mississippi want to study consolidating services with the surrounding county government.
But, Adams County supervisors tell The Natchez Democrat that they’re not sure they want to help pay for a study of consolidation with Natchez.
The city’s mayor, Darryl Grennell, asked supervisors last month to pay one-third of the $12,000 cost for Mississippi State University’s John C. Stennis Institute of Government to hold meetings and prepare a report.

City aldermen agreed to pay $4,000, with the intent of raising the remaining money elsewhere.
Supervisor David Carter says Natchez and Adams County have studied consolidation twice before. He says people don’t want to combine governments.
Supervisor Angela Hutchins says she believes consolidations are ineffective and local governments shouldn’t spend money studying an idea they’ll never adopt.
