GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - People in one Mississippi city say sewage is backing up into their homes.

Greenville resident Minnie Smith tells the Delta Democrat-Times that during Super Bowl weekend, a sewage backup prevented her from showering at home and forced her to stay in a motel for three days.

Although city crews repaired a broken sewer line and recently cleaned out the lines nearby, she fears the problems could happen again.

An engineer, Dustin Herman, says there are problems in the part of the sewer system that is the city’s responsibility. He says there are also problems in some lines that are the responsibility of homeowners.

Ruby Michaels, who lives near Smith, says sewage has also backed up into her home. She believes the water is affecting her phone and internet service.
