SHAFTSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A nonprofit dedicated to Robert Frost has donated $5,000 to a Vermont elementary school.

The Bennington Banner reports Shaftsbury Elementary School Principal Jeff Johnson announced Wednesday the school had received the gift from The Friends of Robert Frost. The funds will be used for educational opportunities. Organization President Carole Thompson asked that the school make the students aware of Frost’s connection to the town.

Johnson says the school is grateful for the gift. Shaftsbury School Board Chairman Ed Molloy has suggested the money be used to teach students about Frost. Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union Finance Manager Renee Gordon says the gift will be placed in a fund where it’s tracked.

The Friends of Robert Frost donated the Robert Frost Stone House Museum and property to Bennington college last year.
