Rhode Island primary moved back to avoid holiday conflict

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s primary elections will be held on a Wednesday this year to avoid conflicting with a Jewish holiday.

The primary is generally set for the first Tuesday after the first Monday in September. This year that would be Sept. 11, which falls during Rosh Hashanah.

The secretary of state’s office tells WPRI-TV that the election will instead be held the next day, Sept. 12, in accordance with state law.
