SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A state prison in Utah remained on lockdown Thursday and three inmates were reported in stable condition a day after they were injured in a fight in an area designated for gang-affiliated prisoners.

Prison guards recovered weapons made by the inmates following the altercation Wednesday night at the maximum-security Uinta facility in Draper about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City, Utah Department of Corrections spokeswoman Maria Peterson said.

Eight inmates initiated the fight, Peterson said. She said she doesn’t know what sparked the scuffle. No prison employees were hurt.

One inmate was flown to a hospital and two others were transported by ambulance with unspecified injuries. All three were reported in stable condition Thursday but no other details were released.

The prison currently houses about 650 male inmates.

The Department of Corrections law enforcement bureau is investigating the incident in conjunction with the Unified Police Department in Salt Lake City, Peterson said.
