BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) - Burlington Police Chief Doug Beaird has announced he plans to retire after 30 years with the department.
The Hawk Eye reports that Beaird on Monday announced his retirement, effective in April.
Beaird was hired as chief in 2012 after five years as a police major in the department. He started with department as a patrol officer in 1988. In 1996, he was promoted to sergeant, and again to lieutenant in 2005.
Beaird said Monday that it’s simply time from him to take a break from law enforcement. He hopes to eventually work in the outdoor industry.
