EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) - Two Santee brothers have been sentenced for beating to death a homeless man in a San Diego County riverbed.
Twenty-two-year-old Austin Mostrong got 20 years to life on Friday for second-degree murder.
Twenty-one-year-old Preston Mostrong got 24 years for voluntary manslaughter and mayhem.
Both pleaded guilty in the 2016 attack on George Lowery, which a judge called “sickening and disgusting.”
Prosecutors say Austin Mostrong had fought with homeless people at a riverbed camp in Santee after shooting at them with a paintball gun and sought revenge after Lowery stole the gun.
He and his brother returned to the camp where they punched and kicked Lowery, hogtied him and left him in the mud under some plywood.
Lowery’s wife found him unconscious. He died days later at a hospital.
