KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - Organizers have decided to cancel an outdoor Kalispell hockey tournament due to unstable ice conditions caused by warm weather.

The Montana Pond Hockey Classic scheduled to take place this weekend at Foy’s Lake in Kalispell was cancelled on Monday.

Pond Hockey Classic Commissioner Scott Crowder says this year, the ice formed as “soft snow ice.”

Organizers realized late last week that the ice was not be thick enough, and could not find stable ice conditions anywhere in the area.

It is the second time in three years that the event has been cancelled.
