WASHINGTON (AP) - A newspaper reports a Baltimore man has been charged with rape, accused by police of sexually assaulting a woman in a Maryland suburb of the nation’s capital.

The Washington Post quotes Prince George County police as saying 25-year-old Jose Mateo Gomez-Portillo was charged Monday with rape, assault and other offenses.

Police say a man broke into a woman’s home just before 6 a.m. on Dec. 23 and sexually assaulted the victim before running away. Authorities say Gomez-Portillo and the victim did not know each other.

Gomez-Portillo remains jailed and online court records don’t list an attorney for him.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for Feb. 12, according to the newspaper.
