BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say at least one person was killed in a small plane crash near a Florida golf course.

Lee County Undersheriff Carmine Marceno said during a news conference that the plane went down Monday afternoon in a wooded area near Bonita National Golf & Country Club in Bonita Springs.

Marceno says officials picked up a distress call several minutes after the small plane took off from Page Field in Fort Myers. Deputies and firefighters searched the wooded area and found the crash scene and one body. Authorities weren’t immediately sure if the plane was carrying additional occupants.

Officials weren’t immediately releasing the victim’s name or the cause of the crash.
