FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California judge says a 39-year-old man charged with killing four people and shooting at three others last April is mentally fit to stand trial.

The Fresno Bee reported Monday that a Fresno County judge rejected Kori Ali Muhammad’s arguments that he has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was not sane at the time of the shootings. His attorney Richard Beshwate Jr. says he won’t appeal the decision.

Muhammad pleaded not guilty to four counts of murder after the judge found him fit to stand trial.

Police say Muhammad fatally shot three men at random while wandering through downtown Fresno on April 18. He fatally shot a motel security guard two days earlier.

The district attorney’s office is deciding whether to seek the death penalty.
