EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Northwest Washington officials say deputies fatally shot a man near Everett after his wife reported he was suicidal.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies shot the 35-year-old man of Lake Stevens on Ebey Island on Sunday.

Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team spokeswoman Kristin Banfield says the man’s wife had reported that the man was suicidal and wanted police to kill him.

Banfield says deputies found him in a gravel parking lot and attempted to talk to him before he came out from behind his vehicle with what looked like a weapon.

Deputies fired multiple times.

The Everett Fire Department declared the man dead at the scene.

The three deputies involved in the shooting were not injured and have been placed on administrative leave.

A firearm was recovered from the scene.
