ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Multitudes of congress critters flea The Swamp every weekend to get some time with family, constituents or to just regain a little sanity and perspective far from life int he DC bubble. But one side effect of the so-called “Government Shutdown” is most of the Capitol Hill elected officials were in town this past weekend waiting for a possible breakthrough vote on legislation to fund the government.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) decided to treat her caucus to dinner Saturday night so the poor Democrats wouldn’t have to resort to Uber Eats or Five Guys. And this was not a Denny’s or Cracker Barrel experience, my friends. According to Politico’s Jake Sherman, Pelosi treated at the swanky and pricey Acqua Al 2 South East of Capitol Hill.

Indeed, Pelosi appears to enjoy entertaining at the high-end Italian joint. In 2015 Politico reported she had spent $27,000 in the prior midterm election year there.

White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee-Sanders took to Twitter to jab the Dems for appearing to celebrate in such high-end fashion while members of the military wondered when their next paycheck would be arriving:

A quick look at the menu over at Acqua Al 2 suggests it’s kinda hard to get out of that place without dropping at least $100 bucks per person. When you multiply that by the size of the Democrat House caucus and, well, that starts to add up to real money.

It’s good to be in The Swamp.
