LAPLACE, La. (AP) - Authorities in Louisiana say a 17-year-old boy was struck and killed by a train.

WWL-TV reports it happened Monday around 7:50 p.m. in LaPlace.

St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre says the teenager was attempting to cross the railroad tracks before the train and did not make it.

Neighbors in the area said the intersection with the railroad crossing has no lights or anything to indicate when a train is approaching.

Authorities say it is unknown at this time if the teenager was by himself when the incident occurred.
