HILLSDALE, N.J. (AP) - Officials say two New Jersey police officers rescued a 47-year-old man from a burning vehicle after the car flipped over in a crash.

The crash took place early Tuesday in Hillsdale when the unidentified Bergenfield man lost control of his vehicle after striking a tree. The Record reports Officer Alex Kaplan and Officer Matt Buesser witnessed the crash and saw the car catch on fire.

Buesser and Kaplan pulled the man from the burning vehicle before extinguishing the flames. The Hillsdale Fire Department responded soon after, and transported the man to an area hospital for treatment.

Det. William Dietrich says the Kaplan and Buesser serve as volunteer firefighters in Hillsdale and Woodcliff Lake, respectively.
