WEST BATH, Maine (AP) - A Maine man who accidentally killed his father when he punched him has been sentenced to one year in prison.

WGME-TV reports 55-year-old Kurt Linton, of Richmond, was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to aggravated assault. Under the plea deal, a manslaughter charge was dropped.

Police say Linton was living with his parents when he assaulted his 76-year-old father inside their home. An autopsy concluded Malcolm Linton died from complications following “blunt impact to the head.”

Andrew Wright, one of Linton’s attorneys, says his client misses his father and wishes the altercation hadn’t happened.

Linton will serve three years’ probation following his release. State officials say if Linton violates his probation he will be sentenced to an additional seven years.
