ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) - Craft beer aficionados and brewers from around Vermont came together in St. Albans over the weekend to judge which homebrews will have a shot at distribution.

The fourth annual Make the Cut Homebrew Challenge took place Sunday at 14th Star Brewery in St. Albans, narrowing down a field of beers to two finalists that will be announced later this week. WCAX-TV reports the public will decide the winner, who will receive $1,000 and a batch of their beer to be sold in local craft beer stores.

Organizer Ryan Chaffin says the beer industry in Vermont is second-to-none, and that state residents are passionate about beer.

According to the Brewer’s Association, Vermont ranks first in the country with almost 11 breweries per 100,000 adults.
