CRANDON, Wis. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot and killed after he pointed a shotgun at a sheriff’s deputy in northern Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice says 31-year-old Brandon Cude was sitting in a disabled vehicle Thursday morning when he was approached by a Forest County deputy who had discovered that Cude was wanted on felony warrants in Texas.

Authorities say the deputy tried to make contact with Cude when Cude pointed a shotgun at him. The deputy fired his weapon in response, killing Cude.

The deputy has not been identified. He has been placed on standard administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
