LOVELL, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a suspect in the alleged slaying of a woman in northwest Wyoming.

Lovell Police Chief Dan Laffin said in a statement that 48-year-old Donald Joe Crouse faces a charge of first degree murder.

Officers discovered the body of 49-year-old Carol Jean Barnes of Cowley in a Lovell apartment during a welfare check that had been called in by a family member. She’s believed to have died Thursday afternoon or evening.

Laffin says an immediate search for the suspect began and Crouse was later taken into custody without incident more than 200 miles away in Mills, near Casper.

The victim and suspect knew each other and previously had been involved in a relationship, according to Laffin.

Further details including the manner of Barnes’ death were not released.
