GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say two children have been rescued after falling through thin ice while sledding on a South Carolina pond.

Greenville County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Flood said the children were playing on the pond behind a subdivision in Travelers Rest when they fell in about 1 p.m. Monday.

Flood says a neighbor was able to call 911 and firefighters and a deputy using a rope that extends from a bag were able to reach the children.

Flood said in a statement the two children who went through the ice and a third who was at the edge of the pond were all taken to the hospital, but were expected to be OK.

Temperatures in the area have only been above freezing for a few hours at a time the past week.
