PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) — Luis Carpio had four hits, and Joe Cavallaro hurled six scoreless innings as the St. Lucie Mets beat the Charlotte Stone Crabs 5-1 on Tuesday.

Cavallaro (1-0) allowed two hits while striking out six and walking one to pick up the win.

Charlotte cut the deficit to 2-1 in the seventh after Jermaine Palacios hit an RBI single, bringing home Rene Pinto.



St. Lucie answered in the next half-inning, scoring two runs to extend its lead. T.J. Rivera and Gene Cone hit RBI singles en route to the three-run lead.

The Mets tacked on another run in the ninth when Andres Gimenez hit an RBI triple, driving in Carpio.

Josh Fleming (0-1) went six innings, allowing two runs and nine hits while striking out three to take the tough loss in the Florida State League game. Matt Pobereyko recorded his fifth save of the season.
