PRINCETON, W.Va. (AP) — Michael Costanzo got Dominic Abbadessa to hit into a double play in the eighth inning, leading the Princeton Rays to a 6-4 win over the Bluefield Blue Jays on Tuesday.
The double play came with the bases loaded and prevented the Blue Jays from scoring in the inning.
Bluefield took the lead in the first when D.J. Neal hit a two-run triple and then scored on a two-run double by Hagen Danner.
After Princeton scored three runs, the Rays tied the game in the fifth inning when Wander Franco hit an RBI single, scoring Connor Hollis.
The Rays took the lead for good in the seventh when Jonathan Aranda scored on a double play.
Jeffrey Rosa (1-0) got the win with three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Adams Cuevas (0-1) took the loss in the Appalachian League game.
The Blue Jays left some scoring opportunities on the table, stranding 12 baserunners in the loss.
