HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man has been convicted of trying to hire someone to kill his ex-wife.
Federal prosecutors say a jury in Hartford last week found 56-year-old James Erik Godiksen guilty of murder for hire.
Authorities say while in prison on a separate matter, the Clinton man reached out to other inmates seeking a person who would be willing to kill his former wife.
Prosecutors say he then spoke by phone several times to an undercover federal agent and offered $5,000 to kill the woman, with additional cash for also killing her boyfriend.
Godiksen was arrested in September after meeting with the undercover agent and providing him with an $80 “down payment” that was to be used to purchase a knife.
Sentencing will be at a later date.
